SIF Architecture: An Implementation Advantage
The ENGINE NIF is designed to work as a SIF or SCIM. This means that it connects to the network between the switch and any existing IN platforms. It can also act transparently or as an end point.
This makes implementation simple. For example, pre-pay applications, such as friends and family discounting, can be implemented without having to modify the pre-pay platform. It also means that compound applications, such as VPN functions for pre-pay customers, can also be deployed easily. Certain other applications, such as dialled number correction, will also work for pre-pay customers even though the pre-pay platform is already using all the available triggers.
A Simple Upgrade Path
The ENGINE architecture has been designed to be massively scalable. It has been designed so that a complete system, with all of the full IN features, can be deployed economically to support a simple single service such as, for example, roaming steering. This can even compare favourably in pricing terms with point solutions from other suppliers. This means that you can use a simple business case, based on a single problem, in a single operator, to get started. This could be something as simple as, for example, a roaming dashboard or SS7 analytics service. Then as you add more applications, and more operators, the cost advantages are compounded. Costs are saved in servers, application fees, implementation projects and in skilled staff throughout. You also gain control and standardisation.
